(4/4) The National Day of Action for MMIWG2S+ must include sex workers. Without them, there is no true remembering, honouring, awareness, or call to action.

(3/4) Indigenous women, femme persons, girls, and Two-Spirit folks comprise the highest percentage of people who go missing and whose lives are unduly taken. Those who engage in sex work, especially street-based sex work, are even more likely to go missing and lose their lives.

(2/4) The day also acts as a call for action to address the root causes of this violence and to work towards justice and healing for many Indigenous communities. One of the root causes of this violence is whorephobia.

(1/4) The National Day of Action for MMIWG2S+ is observed annually on Oct. 4 in the land now called Canada. It is dedicated to remembering the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women, femme persons, girls, & Two-Spirit people. And it raises awareness about the ongoing violence against them.

Considering the accusations, 4 years and $500,000 seem like nothing. People risked a lot for what appears like placation justice (that is, something that looks like "justice" but fundamentally isn't b/c it maintains current power operations and precedents).

This is making its way onto the list because, apparently, Canada ranks #7 on the list of countries that have historically had the most serial killers. I have to do more research to check the accuracy of this, though.
