#A-Haydn-A-Day it’s April 5th and we’re almost a week in. Yesterday felt like summer in the UK and these sunny Haydn works are just the ticket! Yet more double minuet madness today.

#A-Haydn-A-Day It’s April 4th and we are still on Op.1! Even before listening, it’s kind of cute to see the palindromic structure: Presto - Minuet - Adagio - Minuet - Presto. Haydn was my kind of guy!

#A-Haydn-A-Day For April 3rd we arrive at Op.1, No.4 in G major. The first movement is sunny and joyful, so this looks set to be yet another positive and happy start to the day.

Oh damn it #A-Haydn-A-Day op 1 no 4 why did you start with a fast movement again, I love early Haydn starting with slow movements. But to be fair, This one has some a nice embellished solos from the 1st violin (i wonder if notated?) and a rly fun and zippy development section.

#NowSpinning Klami’s Nummisuutarit Overture. This disc of Finnish overtures is a joy from start to finish. I love the unvarnished sound of the Oulu Sinfonia.

#A-Haydn-A-Day Inevitably, for 2 April, we now move on the the Op.1 No.3 Quartet in D major. Another elegantly playful work.

Op. 1, 3, for #A-Haydn-A-Day today, and I think it's good that this one opens with a slow movement (followed by three shorter, lighter movements, including a scherzo right in the middle).

#A-Haydn-A-Day is back! As before, I'm putting my favourite recording of each work on a playlist. It's more justified to call Haydn The Father of the String Quartet than of the symphony, as in this case he more-or-less invented the medium.

#A-Haydn-A-Day Next up we are on to Op.1 No.2 in E Flat Major. First impressions? Elegance and charm. Playful lyricism blended with a clear classical form. Yes, I am up early.

Today, @idagioofficial.bsky.social announced a partnership with stage+ . Although I have not understood whether they will integrate it into the application, I am glad that they are trying to evolve in an incredibly competitive environment.

Composer Joseph Haydn turns 293 years young today.

Often called "Father of the Symphony" (he wrote 106 of them), we will perform his composition "The Seven Last Words of Christ" at our concert on Good Friday with soloists and chorus from NI Opera.
