Dear @plosone.org, sending a review invitation sunday morning, and the first reminder 29hrs later (monday morning) is unlikely to encourage me to review the paper for you. Regards, a researcher who is trying to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Something I try to remind colleagues of regularly: celebrate every small achievement!

"please contribute your income-generating ideas". Because reading other research, research, papers, grants, teaching, supervision, marking, knowledge exchange, admin, external activities (reviewing paper, grants, examing) are not enough to fill an academics time. #academiclife

Maybe too late to be useful, but yes: or if you are not comfortable doing so, talk to the programme coordinator and they can challenge on your behalf.

Todays pondering: how many hours does the average acadaemic waste on formating manuscripts for journals (by waste, I mean fixing stuff that is not mentioned in the author instructions/reformatting for a new journal after a rejection)?

Sounds much the same as UK universities at the moment....with the addition of a few universities having huge financial problems... So highlighting that most staff are completely overloaded with work is met with "at least you still have a job, unlike 400 staff at university X"

I started working with genetics during my undergrad in 2000. None of my training (including self-directed learning in data sciecne) has equipped me for installing software on our computer cluster. No bioinformatics support available. Very frustrated and very much stuck!

Today's aim is to write and record four lectures. Just realised I'm boring myself. Is it reasonable to hope I'm better (less dull) in person?!
