I know the protocol itself is DOA but I really hope the rest of this shit hole crumbles soon. what a total waste
12.09.2025 21:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0oh look it's the guy who took dark money and didn't disclose it
12.09.2025 14:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0this God forsaken website suspending people for saying Kirk's death was good is yet another reason why this place will never replace Twitter. such a horrible vibe here as usual
11.09.2025 05:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0shut up loser
11.09.2025 05:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0is there real recourse for Mississippi users at this time? do we have any reasonably functional third party bsky appviews? I'm not sure how much the situation has changed since I last looked into everything
23.08.2025 01:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0for now, they bypass the protocol until the devs implement private stuff. so they work like any other centralised web app
13.08.2025 09:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0it doesn't support private anything for any reason at this time
12.08.2025 23:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I mean if you can't properly resolve and verify a handle, you probably shouldn't be interacting with it as a safety thing. you can also probably rewrite the DID to be more friendly, like <plc id>.plc.directory
12.08.2025 20:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0probably just pretend something to the front of the handle since it's most of the way there already. either some static thing like 'at' or the user's DID or something. would depend more on the use case tbh
12.08.2025 20:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0am I using it right now?
29.07.2025 16:11 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm not entirely sure what the point is in soft blocking and why it would be used over regular blocking. surely some of these annoying people would eventually create a troll's appview that doesn't respect these records
29.07.2025 16:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0which may be why it's all a bad idea
29.07.2025 15:57 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I assume they mean the relay?
26.07.2025 21:39 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0support for private data is a prerequisite for on-protocol DMs, so who knows when that'll happen, but afaik it is planned
24.07.2025 10:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0if you would like to become a sysadmin in exchange for purely theoretical benefits, then hosting a PDS is a great option
11.07.2025 02:38 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I will ask my grandma to verify my PGP keys then
08.07.2025 13:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Why
02.07.2025 22:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't see #2 as a viable path since the short form video space is already crowded with big players and it's going to be hard to make something substantially better than tiktok (which succeeds imo because their algorithm is so good)
30.06.2025 04:14 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0feed algorithms have always been black boxes and selling points for social media apps so the assumption that people would provide good quality feeds for the network for no reason really never made sense to me. maybe monetisation needs to be better proven for protocol services?
30.06.2025 02:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0yeah, afaik you can't filter the firehose. there are some tricks you can do for some optimization, like if you want to listen to a certain DID you could look up its PDS and listen to that event stream instead of a relay. I'm kind of surprised the relay doesn't have that functionality by now tbh
24.06.2025 20:10 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm not currently aware of any PoC for malicious Jetstream but I'm also not super in the loop lol
24.06.2025 19:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm sure there are ways to verify the data from Jetstream but imo once you start asking these questions, it makes more sense to consume & verify the binary firehose instead. then you don't need to worry as much about hammering PDSes hosted on pis, etc. and ideally libraries would make it easy
24.06.2025 19:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0personally, I think a malicious PDS would be bad since it has full control over your identity & keys and also should act as a mitm for all on-protocol traffic. so it could modify/refuse incoming or outgoing posts, inject ads into feeds, lock you out of migrating, post or delete for you, etc
24.06.2025 19:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0yeah, Jetstream provides an easier way to consume protocol events at the cost of stripping out all of the crypto stuff that allows the events to be self certifying. pretty much any untrusted server or any other way to interfere with those events can go undetected.
24.06.2025 19:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I have no problem paying for good quality software but I don't think there is any way I would pay a subscription fee for a social media app
24.06.2025 17:49 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0no oauth support and I get to lose my streak? what a great deal
24.06.2025 13:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0on the easily abused social network easily abusing the social network
06.06.2025 16:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0for me and others I've heard/talked to: 1) bad default algo = hard to find what you like, 2) culture, and 3) no privacy
05.06.2025 18:15 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0also I'm defining success as the network fully functioning in a usable manner without bsky llc, and I think the bluesky team has defined it that way themselves as well
