In England we call that 'HP sauce'

I don't have a fixed view here. But while theories might be a little ontologically mysterious, aren't people too?

(Granted I'm hand-waving πŸ‘‹ now)

Fair. On (a), if a theory is somewhat like a tool, its use would be more active & engaged than knowing (many) facts. So (b) alignment with knowing a person would be in terms of engagement and interaction. (Also, internalised knowledge of a theory might not include much by way of factual knowledge).

Interacting with a theory wld be roughly "being able to use it" (make inferences from it)l, discuss details etc.). You might say, being on first name terms with it.

Compared with knowing of a theory in sense that one knows it exists and maybe some other basic facts ("it's something about gravity")

Isn't (imperfectly) understanding (e.g. a theory) something like that?

Probably ready to read The Hobbit then!

You're right that there's some bitter pills to come. But victims apologising to bullies is something else. More to the point, bullies not getting rewarded for bullying is what this is all about.

That looks the best way to get into it. But as you say, not ideal for collaborating.

I mostly use markdown these days: plain text, very easy to learn.

(In fairness, I like that Word will read my work back to me - good for catching typoes and so on)

It's the co-authors thing that means no one will ever escape.

LibreOffice is ok, but compatibility with Word when trying to use Zotero is just too annoying.

Every now and then I consider LaTeX, but then it take a closer look and remember I can't be bothered :)

"Repels the reader's attention at the level of the page, the paragraph and the sentence".

Surely there's a point at which a book is so repellent that it's actually kind of fascinating πŸ€”
