I think the above is only true in raw numbers. So many fewer yearly births overall since 2013 means that as a percentage of yearly births, 2023 is the best year for Muhammad/Mohammed/Mohammad (although still way behind Jack in 1996).

There were more Jacks in 1996 alone (10779) than Noahs between Sept 2021 and Dec 2023 (10480), and Noah was the most popular name in that period.

The peak year for Muhammad/Mohammed/Mohammad was actually 2013 - there has been a mini-revival lately but mostly it's just that there are fewer super popular names now.

In 1997, there were 4 Mohammeds born per Muhammad in England and Wales. By 2012 they were roughly equal and by 2023, there were 3 Muhammads per Mohammed.

I'd love to know what's behind this trend. Why has the 'u' spelling become so much more popular?
