A little math about that prison camp in Florida. $450 million per year for 3,000 people is $150,000/person per year.
The cost for one person receiving SNAP for one year is $2256, yet they're telling us that's too expensive.

Obama: β€œGutting USAID is a travesty, and it’s a tragedy. Because it’s some of the most important work happening anywhere in the world.”

Higher USAID support was associated with a 15% reduction in overall mortality and 32% reduction in child mortality.

This was the effect of not just its health work but also its development support for economies, people, and institutions that transitioned numerous countries off of aid.

Evaluating the impact of two decades of USAID interventions and projecting the effects of defunding on mortality up to 2030: a retrospective impact evaluation and forecasting analysis USAID funding has significantly contributed to the reduction in adult and child mortality across low-income and middle-income countries over the past two decades. Our estimates show that, unless the abrupt funding cuts announced and implemented in the first half of 2025 are reversed, a staggering number of avoidable deaths could occur by 2030.

Here is the study in The Lancet, which estimates that the elimination of USAID funding could lead to over 14 million deaths, including over 4.5 million children, by 2030:

I grew up in Indiana, received my J.D. from IU Bloomington. 15 strikes me as a high cut off, but courses often cut for low enrollment. More importantly, subject matter, course purpose, professor expertise important. Then discuss.

STAGGERING: This new study of 133 countries is the first to estimate the impact of all USAID’s work. In 2 decades, it has saved *92M* lives. Current cuts, if not reversed, are forecast to cost up to *14M* lives thru 2030. www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

Great! In 2011 I audited LLM courses at CUPL, one which covered significant collections of in/out China law and regs. Fascinating subject. Wonder how much since then and ongoing this subject matter in flux and insight, if any, historical case studies offer. What sources to follow?

Extreme Heat Is Exacerbating Air Pollution, a β€˜Double Whammy’ for Health Extreme heat is making air pollution worse, scientists say. And President Trump’s regulatory rollbacks could drive air pollution even higher.

Extreme heat & air pollution are a "double whammy" threat to public health, increasing hospital visits for respiratory, heart & mental health, says our director @maryrice-lungdr.bsky.social to @NYTimes.com. The EPA has proposed to eliminate climate rules for coal-fired power.

Its rationale? American power plants don't contribute significantly enough to climate change to warrant regulation.

Expect a torrent of comments arguing that this can't withstand scientific, economic & legal scrutiny.
