Irma SΓ‘nchez PhD replies : I was born & raised in Dallas, Tx. When I applied to college, a counselor offered to
mail in one college application for me - under the pretext that she could get me a fee waiver . She told me later she decided not to mail it. There is nothing to understand - its Texas.

It is true that as the lab approaches its 30th anniversary (this Sept),
I am no longer 2 or 3 years older or the same age as my postdocs.
That being said, most of my postdocs are several years older than I was when my lab opened. I am fortunate that everyone on my team is on the same page as me.

Irma Sanchez PhD replies : I guess we need to just keep on ticking like the Energizer bunny. In the past week, anything we try to do seems to oscillate back and forth. The bank even forgot to send a new debit card on time. It does seem like the world needs to take a Valium.

Irma SΓ‘nchez PhD: I would say "not valued." Actually, senior people have fewer options (stiffer paylines, no career awards, institutional grant expectations) and are held to a higher standard than junior people. Covid affected everyone not just junior people. And "this" affects us too.

Irma Sanchez PhD comments : Note the emphasis " NYC Dem primary voters ".......... didnt about 70% of registered Democrats NOT vote in the Dem mayoral primary ?

Irma SΓ‘nchez PhD : To be honest, I don't know who they polled.
I am a NYC Jew, and I live with another one, and we know lots of others. None of them support Mamdani's candidacy. Most of us didnt bother to vote in the Democratic primary......

Irma SΓ‘nchez PhD : Unbelievable statement ! Not all Israelis are Jews. If the money paying for this is private and doesnt come from the American taxpayer - why NOT ? Personally,
I have no problems with this. What about other POC ? What about left handers ? We are ten percent of the population.

Irma SΓ‘nchez PhD : It will be catastrophic for EVERYONE. I do not understand why some "animals are more equal than others."
There seems to be no regard for established, productive, experienced investigators whose only crime is running a lab for more than 20 years. Seniority is no longer valued.

Today in Chemistry History graphic on Rosalind Franklin and the structure of DNA. Rosalind Franklin was a chemist and X-ray crystallographer whose work was instrumental in the discovery of the structure of DNA. She missed out on a Nobel Prize for her work as they are not awarded posthumously. Photograph 51 is an X-ray diffraction image of DNA taken during Franklinβs research. It was crucial in developing a model of DNA and confirming its double helical structure.

We are not sure what this means either. However, big cities like NYC "house" homeless and mentally ill people on the sidewalks. Some use the sidewalk as a toilet or a place to have sex or shoot up drugs. These people need to be taken care of and not ignored.
