This is such a disgraceful use of water and energy. AI is a huge consumer of both. You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself and delete this awful "thing" ASAP. Hopefully it never catches on.

Yes, if done correctly. But I wouldn't hold my breath for that.

More public spending, particularly on fraud. More anti immigrant feeling. More scams.

We're beginning to realise, often too late, the damage wrought by all sorts of tech. Maybe not rushing into using AI & considering it with a thorough cost/benefit analysis would help us all. How many people using GPT realise the resources it uses & how that might be detrimental in the long run?

Britain is about to start fighting over fracking again Nigel Farage’s Reform UK think there’s hundreds of billions of pounds worth of shale gas ripe for exploiting. But are they ready for the fracking backlash?

#Fracking, let's start with some basic facts. There is a global gas market. It would not be "cheap gas".

Aside from the fact of it costing the Earth

Came here to say that too. Might the other one be Frank Bough?

Came across an Irish tree on Ancestry where a baptismal entry in a register had been misread- whether that was an Ancestry indexing error or an individual's mistake I don't know, it wasn't mine as it turned out so didnt pursue it - godparents listed as parents, different surnames and all.

Have been taking time this year to find out more about those in my tree who served in WW1 and WW2. "Men at War" by @luketurner.bsky.social has been excellent accompanying reading for the WW2 servicemen. Well worth a read.

I stopped reading anything Lionel Shriver writes after I saw her on BBC QT quite a few years ago. Her Brexit stance also contributed.

I grew up in Sth L and applied to an He institution in Coventry. In the front of the prospectus (does that age me too much!) was a map with Cov highlighted and concentric circles around it, spreading out over the country. I was amazed how much of the country was in The North!!!

In about 1990 my youngest daughter had a Silver Cross dolls pram for her birthday. It was a beautiful thing, just like the one in your 2nd photo. It was very expensive though, so much so that we had to split the cost with my parents. She loved it and it's the thing our neightbours still remark on.

Perhaps she could ask Reading museums for a loan of their copy.

It's getting more complex. My gym has a machine giving details of body composition (I know the issues here) but the machine won't talk to my gym app because it says my swipe card isn't attached to the app! As for changing email address, I've had to do it in 3 different places, & it still won't work.

If there is more life on a kids nit comb than a garden, we need Government to step in and end the trend. Please sign to ban domestic use of Plastic Grass

No, but the cost per mile seems extraordinarily high if councils and govt are trying to encourage the take up of EVs.

13.07.2025 13:22 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, I don't understand, apart from the profit motive obvs, why public chargers are so expensive. Wherever and however you charge an EV the cost of electricity should be the same. It's not rocket science and just creates a 2 tier charging system.

Then last w'end we were queuing in front of another couple to get into an event. They were talking to the security man about how he was doing. He was blasΓ© about standing in full kit in the sun for hrs, and they were poopooing the idea that heat is dangerous & saying how much they loved it. Madness!

The public is made so much more aware of the dangers of heat and the sun in general these days. I can't understand some people's willing ignorance. We were on hols in the UK at the end of June/early July when the temps rose. So many babies in buggies with no shade! And so many adults strawberry red.

The Guardian has a column, renewed monthly, where readers discuss what they've read recently. Some books are new, many aren't. Also my local library has a 'new acquisitions' shelf that I look at regularly.

Just back from a visit to Osborne House and am intrigued by the family life of Victoria, Albert and their children. Any recommendations for books on the subject? TIA

Really enjoyed this. The ads not so much!!
Interesting view on AI - rehashing what we have already created and not allowing us to move to the future.

21.06.2025 21:11 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, but the issue is getting those people who don't understand that to realise what AI is doing. Anyone who doesn't understand the nuances will be happy with the summaries, no matter how bad/untrue/wildly fabricated they are. And that's a real problem.
