We had these amazing scientists talking about losing their funding and how they can't do the work that helps society —but also brings them comfort, security, and acclaim.

Does the danger of losing our privilege rekindle awareness of our connection to other working class struggles?

If you don't protest when other people are under attack, why would you expect them to protest when you are finally the one on the chopping block?

Solidarity doesn't start the day YOU need something.

So, I understand why scientists don't often protest in the streets, if every issue turned our heads, then we would lose some of that focus that our work requires.

But. When the people on stage say, "I've never come out to protest before", they are letting you know how disconnected they are.

On the one hand, it was so nice to go to the Stand Up for Science event in San Francisco and see so many brilliant and creative people and their hilarious signs.

Science requires dedication and focus and it's hard to tear yourself away from your experiments. You can lose momentum.

Good science is slow, like a tree that takes a long time to bear fruit.

If you take a chainsaw to every sapling, you starve the future.

Reality is socially constructed. Republicans (following and falling in line with right wing media) understand this as a strategy rather than a descriptive theory. Democrats don’t yet get it.

I finished the CAD design for the latest prototype yesterday afternoon & emailed the file to my 3D printer friend. A few hours later I get a time lapse video of my creation coming into being.
