Dad. Communications consultant/science writer guy. America's leading lawn gnome critic. Likes: bikes, science, camping, travel, frugality. Dislikes: lawn gnomes without eyes, quick declines into fascism. Sigh. Pictured, Tonka as a young man

I suspect you're correct. But when I see polls of "rural Americans," I kind of want to know whether it is the 50% of 20% (the Authentically Rural?!?) of Americans or 50% of some larger percentage of Americans.
It would help me better understand how effed we are as a nation.
What complicates things is that only 20% of Americans are actually rural, but I'm sure a larger percentage are actually suburbanites who cosplay as rural.
I think that distinction matters, but I don't know if pollsters agree with that.

Oddly enough, C-3PO can't seem to do a convincing robot.
Star Tours is still the best Star Wars ride at Disney.
So, Bluesky is a great source for book recommendations. I'm midway through The Pollutant Speaks by Alex Cochran (cannotbegrouped.bsky.social) and loving it. Engaging hard SF.
Next is To Catch a Fascist, an incredibly timely non-fiction by Christopher Mathias (letsgomathias.bsky.social)
She pointed out it was Trump & MAGA that got this ball rolling.
In his June. '24 Fox & Friends interview, Trump's big mouth agreed to release the files. Even though he immediately backpedaled, his MAGA toadies made it a campaign point.
The universe always favors irony.

MAGA is a political ideology built on hate and mockery.
What is remarkable is all the FB posts that cut out the first few seconds of the video to make it appear that this poor, innocent man was attacked by bloodthirsty students.

And we still haven't heard about his health plan, which he assured us was in the works during his first term.
I think we breezed past when Trump posted an AI video about his new Medbeds-based health plan. Medbeds are a QAnon-born fiction about secret alien tech.
For any normal president, this would be an Administration-shattering lapse of sanity. For DJT, it was a Saturday.

Reminder that Dr. Oz was an elite physician. He gave that up because promoting quackery was more profitable. He continues to push profitably sloppy thinking.
Safe bet, Phil.

Still, Mehmet Oz is an Armenian Genocide denier, and that's nuts

Love it. Maybe a typo, maybe not. We all have good reasons to ride.
Just had to block a guy who equated fictional "dissenters" and a fictional FEMA plan to detaining actual humans in warehouse concentration camps.
That was the point: the FEMA plans weren't real. The paranoid black helicopter-fearing conspiracists of my youth are now backing actual fascism.
The point was more about the people claiming to worry about concentration camps are now building one, but thanks for trying. Goon squads and death camps aren't a good look for the world's oldest Republic.

I'm old enough to remember when the forerunners of our current MAGA friends used to pretend that Clinton planend to build FEMA camps to control dissent.
That was quaint. I think it was referenced on X-Files.
