Trump's Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins has the authority to ensure SNAP benefits continue during the shutdown. Their own shutdown guidance confirmed it.

Instead, they decided to illegally reverse course and cut SNAP benefits for 42M hard working Americans. Hunger is not a political tool. Shameful.

Of the 40 or so million people who rely on food stamps:

* Most working-age adults who receive SNAP are employed—but in jobs that pay poverty wages

They're demonizing SNAP and other recipients of federal aid on right wing media.

Of 21 million federal aid beneficiaries, ~70% work full-time and 39% of SNAP beneficiaries are children. Critics need to ask Amazon and Walmart why they won't pay enough for their employees to survive w/o food stamps.

I looked it up once. SNAP takes 2% of the US budget and 93% of the money goes to the actual poor people instead of to the bureaucracy. So it's kind of like if you paid $1000 in taxes, you spent $20 on the poor of which they got to keep $18.60, and you spent $166.66 on the military.
