this is what really killed the place even before the nazis fully took over

the Venn diagram of โ€œpeople willing to pay for Twitter so their replies are boostedโ€ and โ€œpeople capable of making funny commentsโ€ is just two completely separate circles side by side

Some of the mists in our minds are never going to dissipate. Some bits of us are always going to be stuck in November twilight. We walk and jangle the dozens of bottles of pickled time.

to young people: you may at some point have heard about the Y2K problem. some people may have told you it wasn't a big deal

i need you to understand the only reason it wasn't a big deal was that everyone spent loads of time fixing code before it could become a problem, which is why it never did

"It could criminalise mainstream, historic Christian teaching on marriage and sexual ethics, and make sharing the Gospel with some people illegal."
"I already said I support it, Harry. You don't need to sell it to me."

it couldnโ€™t be more simple. making things is fun. to hand over the joy of the process of creation to AI is to submit fully to the logic of capital. i am hilariously unproductive and un-prolific, but i enjoy making things, and people enjoy the things i make. i would not trade this for anything.

This also applies to cartoons and comics and basically everything. It doesnโ€™t matter if you have a concept of something already out there. If you love it, do it. Your work will have your unique mark on it by virtue of being made by YOU. (Also two cakes.)

The social construction of economic "value" has never been clearer to me (for better and worse). So much cutting-edge digital game dev work today is happening outside the paradigm of "distribute an exe on Steam"... mods, fan games, ORGs, weird web experiments, IF, alt ctrl, game jams, etc.

We are constantly told by the media and authorities that these are both 'forest'.

One is a complex, diverse native ecosystem, full of life. The other is an industrial monoculture deadzone.

They could not be more different.

Anyone have a favourite bug or glitch, either during something you worked on or in something you played? (Even though I mean the code kind, if you got enthusiastic at the word "bug" and just want to show off some essays on ants that's pretty groovy too.)

In the pew-lined interior of a dim medieval church lit by rows of candles on tall staffs and pale sunlight coming through a window, a tall humanoid crow figure with flowing black robes and a glowing yellow eye stands beneath an ornately carved semicircular arch in Norman Romanesque style. On the wall surrounding the arch are many colourful murals depicting more humanoid crow figures with halos, carrying various items including swords, spears, harps, and chalices.

A painting set in a cosy shady woodland clearing on a sunny summer's day. In the centre of the frame, two figures sit on a fallen log mostly hidden by vegetation. The figure on the right has wavy blonde hair down past her shoulders, and wears a flowing white floor-length dress with long sleeves, with delicate lacework around the cuffs and neckline. She looks into the distance with a contemplative, sad expression. On her lap rests a small green book, covered by both of her hands.
The figure on the left sits leaning with her head against shoulder of the other figure. She wears a similar dress but simpler, and in a dark slate grey. Her hair is dark and straight, and flows down her tilted face, and she looks off towards a nightingale bird perched on a nearby branch. She raises a hand towards the other figure as if to get her attention.

Both figures are surrounded by various flowers. On the left of the frame are many spires of foxglove flowers in vivid pink and white, interspersed among green stinging nettles. On the right are the purple flowers of monkshood/wolfsbane.

Wrapping around the figures is a clear stream flowing from a distant pond that descends in a series of steps. Around the stream are many small mossy rocks, and shoots of dark green dog's mercury.

Above and behind the figures and flowers are two trees; on the left is a weeping willow with dangling dark green leaves. On the right are the branches of an old ash tree.

A snowy scene in which a humanoid figure in long black robes with the head of a rook stands in a churchyard holding a long spear. By its feet is a red fox. Both are flecked with fallen snow. Around them are many weathered snow-covered graves. In the background is a medieval church of warm coloured stone with large rectangular windows and a battlemented parapet topped with pinnacles. Behind the main body of the church is the tower with clock face and belfry. Behind the church are tall but bare trees dusted with snow. More snow falls in the air.

Even if it takes until the 2030s, I'm desperately hoping the Pathologic 2 'trilogy' gets completed, especially considering how wildly different Pathologic 3 is looking. I cannot imagine what they've got in mind for The Changeling, mechanically.

All I'm saying is that when you write "I am alive" on some paper and put it in a photocopier, judging by the output we don't know that there's *not* a very small man in there. And maybe he deserves rights
