A dramatic black and white photo of a large adobe building with wood racks and an adobe oven in front. The sky is black with a few white puffy clouds right above the building on the sides.

Adams has railed against vaccines, and science in general, for many years. Kennedy cut funding for promising work including mRNA vaccines for prostate cancer. Just, the audacity here.

When I wrote about militant fundamentalism in the US military in my book C St, I was talking to select colonels & generals who saw the US as waging Christian holy war. Christian fascism has since gotten a promotion.

People With Disabilities Struggle to Secure Accessible Housing After Disasters Like the L.A. Fires
Devastating wildfires in Southern California disrupted thousands of lives, including those of vulnerable people who continue to search for a place to call home.
The LA Fires earlier this year were devastating for so many people and communities. For disabled people who were displaced, now it's a nightmare of trying to find accessible housing while also competing with everyone else for ANY housing, ANYWHERE.

The GOP’s antisemitism crisis
Nick Fuentes, Tucker Carlson, and the looming Republican civil war over Jews.
“JD Vance’s refusal to forcefully condemn the infamous Young Republicans group chat” illustrates “No Enemies to the Right” aka “NETTR” (a motto coined by Claremont Institute donor Charles Haywood), which has combined with the “technological revolution” to unfurl a “red carpet for…antisemites…” 1/

Welcome to San Francisco! #waymo #selfdrive #techgadgets
A Waymo stops in the middle of an intersection in San Francisco, preventing a trolley —public transit—from moving. Its software reports that the intersection is blocked.
The Waymo is what’s blocking it.
The city comes to a standstill thanks to this idiocy.

Met someone whose dad was on our city council ~50 years ago. Her parents said that Redondo Beach sold itself as the city with the strongest covenants against "undesirables" like myself. They had to move out of RB to Hermosa because of credible threats (per RBPD) against the council member's kids.

Here's the decision.
The CA housing quota system (aka RHNA) assumes that cities will try to build more housing in good faith. But the city rezoning plans were largely bad faith junk.
What happens when people call bullshit? Well... we're about to find out.

It’s Time for Americans to Start Talking About “Soft Secession”
Blue states are finally learning what red states have known all along: you don’t need federal permission to govern.
Soft secession. Blue states building parallel systems, withholding cooperation, and creating facts on the ground that render federal authority meaningless within their borders.
“Without state cooperation, much of the federal government’s agenda becomes unenforceable.”

The whole RHNA framework depended on everyone politely pretending to comply, and now a court has very politely pointed out that the emperor has no clothes.

seattle neighborhood with dense housing limited to and centered on toxic and broad arterials, with poor walkability and public realm
vienna neighborhood with dense housing bounded largely between arterials, with good walkability and public realm. high quality of life
why do US planners & politicians talk about neighborhood on left - auto-centric w/ dense affordable housing limited to broad, toxic arterials. poor walkability & public realm...
like vienna one on right - density bounded by arterials, good walkability, high density of retail, parks, quality of life

Whenever you cycle in the Netherlands, you are riding on the shoulders of giants. Tens of thousands of regular citizens who, five decades ago, took to the streets to fight back against the rampant rise of the car in their community. Without this defiant act, their country would look like any other.🧵

Oh my god I have been trying to explain this to people for YEARS!
Changing who pays for police violence will lead to people harmed by police getting LESS restitution while police violence will continue apace.
Maybe folks will listen now that Marshall Project says it?

Unfortunately, with the combination of Metrolink stations being located in the least convenient places possible and freeways and interstates having been routed through downtowns, this is probably the best Burbank and a lot of other cities could hope for.
