I want agency over our technology. Convinced the way to get there is to build a super user agent that unlocks a composable web. Let’s make it happen… https://userandagents.com Own your browser before it owns you! https://xe.dev Prev: LukeInTH on X

Got multi wan failover with recursive route checks on Microtik.

Most traffic will go via one of two multi wan gateway Linux boxes but configuring the Microtik as the fallback default should the gateways be down for some reason. Also for management traffic.

Cant say I enjoy networking setup.

Long productive day today. Woke up at 6am (blame jet lag), got back to building the #folknet operator at 7am. Time disappeared and it was suddenly 4pm. Few more bits and then disconnecting to go see friends.

The App Store Was Always Authoritarian - Infrequently Noted Apple bent the knee for months, leaving many commentators to ask why. But the reasons are not mysterious: Apple wants things that only the government can provide, things that will defend and extend it...

It's nice to see some of the more established tech voices (👋 @mgsiegler.com, Om, etc.) calling out Apple and Google over the moral rot of cozying up to Trump, but we need more. Unfettered power is bi-directionally corrupting, and we have to attenuate it:

Casually asking an agent to reverse engineer a minified web kvm and rebuild it in rust as I can’t be arsed waiting for slow chrome automations to do their thing.

Yeah. My son left his phone in Sydney airport on way to NZ, thankfully someone handed it in. However office is not on air side so on way back had to go through immigration etc to pick it up.

For the record my biggest issue with Apple is iOS not allowing alternative browser engine choice. It’s a stranglehold on the web driven by anticompetitive fear.

Picked up a pixel at Sydney airport. So long iPhone, I’m done with iOS and apple’s evil grip. Looking forward to running xe.dev on Android/Linux

Education Ministry allows stateless, migrant children to enrol in Thai schools Thailand’s Ministry of Education has announced that all schools under its supervision must accept children and students who are foreign nationals, have no household registration, or do not hold Thai n...

This is fantastic news.

Seeing migrant kids missing out on education and their own schools shut down because they were not allowed to operate was so sad.

As in most countries migrants contribute greatly to the county and every child deserves an education

When I talk about needing webview in the browser I’m not talking about native webviews more the capability for a web app to load another web app. Something more powerful than iframes. This used to be <webview> tag in chrome platform apps now called <controlledframe>

WebViews unlock composition. The ability to run a user controlled web app that can load other web apps under the users direct control. Thats all you need to build a system layer. WebViews are the missing piece of the puzzle. Thankfully Chome/Chromium already shipped everything we need.

Most OS are closed or not practically mutable by users. The browser is the closest thing to an open system layer we have. You can choose your browser on most platforms (fuck you apple).

However something critical has been missing that blocks the browser becoming the user system layer... WebViews

Infinite software inverts power.

The status quo is...

Vendor > System > App > User

As software becomes zero cost, the natural order flips to become...

User > System > App > Vendor

Whats missing is a mutable user controlled system layer. But the technology to make this possible exists today
