Neither the EU nor its citizens needs to disqualify anyone. All we need to do is make the criteria open and transparentโฆand they areโฆeverything else is up to the applicant (potential or otherwise).

Not necessary.
All European countries are free to apply. That includes the UK.

All in or all out. It canโt be more easy to understand than that.

There is no "heart of Europe" as per above โฌ๏ธ.
There is no mythical special place that the UK would "deserve" (by virtue of its economy, maybe?) if and when it becomes a M/S again, with special privileges and power. 1/2
It simply does not exist.
All M/S have equal voice (e.g. ๐ฎ๐ช during Brexit negs)
That's why we have a rotating Presidency of the ๐ช๐บCouncil - so that each M/S can take turn to promote its own vision+agenda - as well as the agenda of the Council as a whole.

The UK is not a member.
What special deals exists for MSs is of zero relevance.
The rules have changed.
None of the MSs that donโt use the Euro have a rival currency. None of them have a financial center the size of the CoL. None of them have used those things to undermine/blackmail the EUโฆ

It is ignorance and arrogance in equal measures. It sadly shows us that nothing has changed since 2016 and that the UK is simply not a serious candidate.

The UK has to adopt the Euro. All new applicants have to. The rules have changed since 1973 when the UK originally joined.

Does the EU, its Member States, its citizens, get a say as to whether they believe the UK belong in it? Of course not, just do as you're told, ๐ช๐บ!

Too many see the UK, as an applicant, as being equal to the EU, it is of course not even close to being a correct observation.
The application process is not a negotiation. The applicant applies. The EU tellsโฆ
Either these people don't get that Art. 49 is an application process or they've never applied for a job in their life.
1/ When applying for a job,the recruiter will state their requirements. Some requirements will be "must have" (e.g., Copenhagen criteria, accepting the Acquis incl. โฌ and Schengen)
Other requirements are "Nice to have" (e.g. a strong economy).
2/ When applying for a job, going in with "my place is in your company" may not be the best approach and strategy ๐
Most people have very little knowledge about these things and frankly donโt care but of course give an answer when prompted.
