We do see technology driving deflation in tons of products. But oddly not in the aggregate
Its funny because the comment itself was taken out if context. But the core truth couldnt be more perfectly within context.
24.10.2025 17:02 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Agree itโs not low, itโs just average. (2.67% avg over last 30y).
To me there are two interesting questions:
1. What does it mean that inflation is still this high given recent productivity gains of technology?
2. Do we really want 2% to 3% inflation? I see improving arguments for light deflation
Donโt worry, soon it will organize results automatically based on the preferences you share on Bluesky ๐ซฃ

24.10.2025 14:38 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Im not sure I trust the numbers, and I hate the political bullshit, but 3% YOY inflation is not that hot according to recent history or the orthodoxy.
Iโd love so see moderate deflation, and I think so would most voters, but this report will do little to delay a FMOC rate cut, so says the market
This is below expectations and not that significant. There is a good discussion to be had in whether we should be targeting deflation, or why we havenโt seen more inflation, but this inflation falls within the orthodoxy of acceptable

22.10.2025 16:28 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This makes perfect sense in aggregate. But if the profits of productivity gains are concentrated, then isnโt the argument stronger that average Americans benefit more from deflation?
(I noticed your caveat here in the article; just curious what happens if we flip the starting point of analysis).

22.10.2025 13:02 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Deflation is not nearly as bad as they would have you believe. It all depends on what causes it (demand or supply).
Supply-side deflation, driven by technology and productivity gains, is wayyy better than higher profit capture by the 1%
I donโt think stopping deflation is the key goal. To rebalance, they need to boost domestic consumption. Deflation might help that if nominal wages stay flat.

I wonder if that political awakening will one day lead to a rethink of the FOMC inflation target. In the short term, there is massive policy discord:
Voters want deflation
Trump wants inflation (way lower rates)
Trump tells voters he fights for deflation
Policy wonks tell voters deflation is bad
