I also have some issues with Stamp’s handling of female characters but it’s paradise compared to literal maid Meryl, Rem turning a blind eye to the twins being physically abused and the whole fake rape allegation debacle, and every other woman being sexually harassed by the protagonist… 💀

Some intersex people and activists also disapprove of the use of “hermaphrodite/hermaphroditic” in science, since it was erroneously used towards humans way before its current use in biology. However I don’t know of an alternative that encompasses all cases for both plants and other organisms.

It’s also very difficult for strangers to tell whether you’re using “hermaphroditic” in a scientific sense or if you’re conflating it with intersexuality and using it in its pejorative sense, when the latter is way, way more common.

I think the issue with it is that the vast majority of characters we’re looking to describe are 1) equivalent to humans in cognition/emotions/etc. or 2) represent a real person (fursona, personal OC, etc.), so we generally don’t want to dehumanize them or promote dehumanizing language towards them—
