I tend to run ttrpg campaigns in what I guess I could call "The sly cooper school of mission design" where they players go to a place, learn about the bad guy, and then do a series of missions that get them close to the villain to fight them

I panic cranked up the difficulty for my BBEGs big appearance literally on the fly mid session because of how handily they'd killed the prior encounter. They absolutely dominated the NPCs and PCs. (As it was their right to do~ At least that's what THEY think.)
