It houses a fascinating relic; the Bible, said to have been used by the chaplain, William Juxon, at the execution of Charles I.

A gorgeous flower covered plant in the secret garden off Ellis and Edwards Hill. Light from the soon the be setting sun filters through the branches. Taken with a Mamiya RZ67 using Kodak Ektachrome E100 medium format film.
Some pretty flowers on slidefilm. I like the way this one worked out quite a bit.

05.08.2025 07:26 โ ๐ 36 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1Note: Depicts the artist's youngest daughter, Kersti, holding freshly picked strawberries on a rhubarb leaf, displaying a sweet and slightly mischievous smile. The painting captures a moment of simple, joyful domesticity, a common theme in Larsson's work featuring his family and home. The strawberries, likely gathered from their garden at [Lilla Hyttnรคs] are presented on a rhubarb leaf, possibly because they had a limited quantity. The scene reflects the artist's fondness for portraying his family and their everyday life, often emphasizing education and a sense of well-being.

Carl Larsson (1853-1919) Swedish painter.
"My Little Girl with Strawberries" c.1904.
Watercolour & pencil.
Painted in 1918, during the final year of Carl Larssonโs life, Portrait of Inga-Maria Thiel is a late yet consummate example of the artistโs celebrated watercolor technique and his lifelong interest in domestic and familial subjects. The sitter, Inga-Maria Thiel, was the young daughter of Ernest Thielโbanker, art collector, and founder of the Thielska Gallerietโand his late wife, Signe. Larsson had long been a close friend of the Thiel family and had previously painted several of its members, including portraits of Signe and Inga-Mariaโs brother Tage. This portrait stands out for its delicate equilibrium between formal structure and emotional immediacy. Seated in a white rocking chair, the child gazes directly at the viewer with a composed expression, her golden curls and white dress rendered with a precision that never lapses into stiffness. The surrounding decorative detailsโfloral wallpaper, a vase of irises and tulips, the ornamental furnitureโreflect Larssonโs mature style, deeply informed by Scandinavian Jugendstil and a distinctly Nordic vision of childhood as luminous, sincere, and untouched. Painted at a time when Ernest Thiel was facing significant financial decline and the loss of his wife, the image carries a poignant undertone. Yet it remains a testament to Larssonโs remarkable ability to distill grace and serenity even amid personal and social adversity. Today, the painting is housed in the Thielska Galleriet in Stockholm, a museum whose very foundation reflects the cultural ambitions of the milieu in which both artist and patron moved.
