They will always be Laelia to me !!!
29.01.2026 20:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just love this one; flowers whenever it feels like it for me
26.01.2026 17:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0One of two different Hoya in the greenhouse, Hoya pubicalyx. This one is a PAIN IN THE ASS! It happily weaves between pots and plunges growing points through orchid baskets and attaches itself to almost any surface. So much so i have to monitor it constantly!! #hoyasky
19.01.2026 17:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is flourishing in our greenhouse pond, hopefully flowers coming soon!
19.01.2026 11:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Love the mirror-like finish! Does he use condensed milk?
19.01.2026 11:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0βJealousβ?
19.01.2026 11:14 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A delightful little beast that (to me) looks like a beetle with long legs, Epidendrum porpax. βPorpaxβ means βshieldβ in Latin, a reference to the glossy lip of a small flower. A native of the cloud forests of South America, supposedly fragrant but Iβm not catching it. #orchidsky #epidendrumporpax
13.01.2026 19:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is early! Mine is mounted and hasnβt begun spikes yet here in The Triad
05.01.2026 15:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Vanda coerulescens doing itsβ thing after breezing through 11F : -12C temps in the heated greenhouse; this spike has been cranking out and still has more buds to go! #orchidsky #vandacoelrulescens
16.12.2025 20:54 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A pleasant surprise and a HUGE shift from your typical Vanda: here is Vanda nana, the βTiny Vandaβ. A native of Cambodia and only discovered in 2012. A tiny delight here in the greenhouseβ¦ Thatβs a Papilionanthe cooperi root invading the first photo #orchidsky #Vandanana
13.12.2025 20:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Coelogyne fimbriata blooming on a plant that took off this year; it bloomed last year but i somehow managed to only find the one blossom withered . This was an Epigeneium at one point which is what i was under the impression it was an entirely different species than flowering revealed. #orchidsky
12.12.2025 16:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Recently identified Vanda mariae; two spikes in December after one earlier this summer. Small scale compared to other Vanda; itβs been quite content here in NC and defined appreciates less sun than the larger ones. I grow all Vanda with Spanish Moss on the rootsβ¦ #orchidsky #vandasky
11.12.2025 03:06 β π 15 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0There are but they are very specific in their demands and i think our climate (and the greenhouse) gets too warm and too cold. I have a couple of species and some Grammatophyllum x Cymbidium crosses that are getting old enough to flower soon
10.12.2025 18:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I miss growing cymbidiums; they thrived in my SoCal gardens and they do not like our hot summers here
10.12.2025 17:43 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Cattleya trianaei, smaller flowers than i expected but a gorgeous cluster of 4 blossoms; thereβs a bit of cursed slug damage but i found some Old School stuff to βmanageβ the little bastards ! #orchidsky #cattleyatrianaei
06.12.2025 19:08 β π 16 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Funny! My Pacavia did as well, first time blooming here in North Carolina. The out-of-season flowerings are a delight
03.12.2025 20:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Plumeria pudica; very distinctive leaf makes for easy ID
03.12.2025 20:00 β π 13 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Mine did a second flowering that just finished a couple weeks ago. Iβve never known them to be twice-blooming
03.12.2025 19:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Such an odd family of plants, the Melastomataceaeβ¦
02.12.2025 14:05 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I have always loved Arpophyllum and finally got ahold of one! Now just to get it to bloomβ¦
02.12.2025 14:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Is this a small, compact grower? I have one like that that was tagged βpapagenoβ
28.11.2025 00:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0One of the βFullerβsβ¦.β Crosses Iβm pretty sure!
24.11.2025 19:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Havenβt posted due to my ongoing cancer treatments but there has been quite a lot ongoing in our greenhouse. One of my absolute favorites flowered this year, Dendrochilum magnum, the βBig Dendrochilum β is oddly scented somewhere between shoe polish and lilies... #cancersucks #orchidsky #ncorchids
11.11.2025 17:50 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Fragrant at night, yes
11.11.2025 15:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The flower is so similar to E. Parkinsonianum
10.11.2025 21:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Same problem here lol not sure what happened!
24.10.2025 16:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Dendrobium ovipositoriferum! Uncommon member of the βNigro-hirsuteβ group. Love the pure colors; almost like a fried egg ! First time blooming on this seedling. #orchidsky
31.07.2025 18:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Aerides houllettiana X A. lawrenceae aka βKorat Kokiβ this one demands warmth and light, spends the winter over the heated pond to keep it happy here in North Carolina ! #orchidsky
29.07.2025 20:52 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Phragmipedium βLeslie Garayβ starting off its months-long blooming. A primary hybrid of P. caudatum and P. longifolium, flowers sequentially and those long petals will get to be over a foot long! #orchidsky #phragmipedium
24.07.2025 15:42 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Vandapalooza happening NOW! Hereβs Vanda βPloenpit Blueβ showing off a compact habit and two spikes of perfect blossoms in that indigo purple and scented of clove and lilies. Ofcasionally listed as Vandachostylis as one parent is Rhynchostylis coelestis that has been relumped with Vanda. #orchidsky
