One of two different Hoya in the greenhouse, Hoya pubicalyx. This one is a PAIN IN THE ASS! It happily weaves between pots and plunges growing points through orchid baskets and attaches itself to almost any surface. So much so i have to monitor it constantly!! #hoyasky

This is flourishing in our greenhouse pond, hopefully flowers coming soon!

A delightful little beast that (to me) looks like a beetle with long legs, Epidendrum porpax. β€œPorpax” means β€œshield” in Latin, a reference to the glossy lip of a small flower. A native of the cloud forests of South America, supposedly fragrant but I’m not catching it. #orchidsky #epidendrumporpax

A pleasant surprise and a HUGE shift from your typical Vanda: here is Vanda nana, the β€œTiny Vanda”. A native of Cambodia and only discovered in 2012. A tiny delight here in the greenhouse… That’s a Papilionanthe cooperi root invading the first photo #orchidsky #Vandanana

Coelogyne fimbriata blooming on a plant that took off this year; it bloomed last year but i somehow managed to only find the one blossom withered . This was an Epigeneium at one point which is what i was under the impression it was an entirely different species than flowering revealed. #orchidsky

Recently identified Vanda mariae; two spikes in December after one earlier this summer. Small scale compared to other Vanda; it’s been quite content here in NC and defined appreciates less sun than the larger ones. I grow all Vanda with Spanish Moss on the roots… #orchidsky #vandasky

There are but they are very specific in their demands and i think our climate (and the greenhouse) gets too warm and too cold. I have a couple of species and some Grammatophyllum x Cymbidium crosses that are getting old enough to flower soon

I miss growing cymbidiums; they thrived in my SoCal gardens and they do not like our hot summers here

Funny! My Pacavia did as well, first time blooming here in North Carolina. The out-of-season flowerings are a delight

Haven’t posted due to my ongoing cancer treatments but there has been quite a lot ongoing in our greenhouse. One of my absolute favorites flowered this year, Dendrochilum magnum, the β€œBig Dendrochilum β€œ is oddly scented somewhere between shoe polish and lilies... #cancersucks #orchidsky #ncorchids

Vandapalooza happening NOW! Here’s Vanda β€˜Ploenpit Blue’ showing off a compact habit and two spikes of perfect blossoms in that indigo purple and scented of clove and lilies. Ofcasionally listed as Vandachostylis as one parent is Rhynchostylis coelestis that has been relumped with Vanda. #orchidsky
