It is #LongCOVID Awareness Day. At least 10% of people will experience symptoms for many months, even years after COVID. These can be debilitating & impact everyday things we all take for granted. We hear you! Our lab is studying the causes behind LC. We hope to find better diagnostics & treatments.

The sound of three hands clapping Further comments on why we need to rid ourselves of two-party politics

The two-party *system* has destroyed itself and damaged the country and needs to be buried at sea at the next election.

Australia has gone from exporting military "items" to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia to kill Yemenis to deploying Australian troops to kill Yemenis directly.

You guys at @australianlabor.bsky.social truly are deplorable.

there's a new "astroturf" (fake grassroots) group in town… #Australians4Prosperity.

they're funded by the coal industry, deeply connected to the LNP and they're going to advertise a lot this election.

Thanks I was very lucky to survive terminal diagnosis due to amazing immunotherapy.

One reason I survived is because I was lucky to join a clinical trial, which meant travel $$ to Sydney.

Rural people die faster and younger from cancer due to lack of access to early diagnosis & new treatments.

Israeli lawmakers call on military to destroy food, water and power sources in Gaza ***

It’s genocide.

It’s not even an argument.

Israel will wear this stain for generations to come.

It will never rub off.

On that, being in the midst of Breast Cancer stuff, pathology has been the big cost. Breast care nurses here work in our public cancer care centre which private patients tend to us. They should be public employees. We should not have to rely on charity.

During treatment, I had to request financial help from cancer charities and was shamed for asking for too much by their local rep ("its other people's turn now"). I stopped asking and I wonder now if that was the goal. I agree it should be government funded so there is good governance & equity.

Text Shot: This week, in an announcement that stunned New Zealand’s research community, the country’s center-right coalition government said it would divert half of the NZ$75 million Marsden Fund, the nation’s sole funding source for fundamental science, to “research with economic benefits.” Moreover, the fund would no longer support any social sciences and humanities research, and the expert panels considering these proposals would be disbanded.

Taxing multi-national gas extractors commensurately & stopping free ride on capital gains for property investors could eliminate student debt burden of Higher Education Contribution Scheme & fund non-cosmetic dental care under Medicare.

Australia’s housing affordability crisis is not that difficult to solve: increase supply and lower demand by ending the incentives that treat housing as an investment vehicle rather than someone’s home. Now if only we had a government brave enough to do it.

A reminder the Albanese Government is paying a private American prison company with an appalling human rights record $2.3 billion over 5 years to run our onshore detention centres. Appalling especially now with the power to strip search people without a warrant & to take their phones for any reason.

Australia’s treatment of whistleblowers is downright dystopian. Heroes like Richard Boyle and David McBride face jail for exposing the truth, while billionaires and corporations dodge accountability. We need to do better. #auspol #RichardBoyle #DavidMcBride
