And yet, I had Loving Cup higher than this on my own list - and I don’t think I have seen anyone pick that - so it just goes to show being clever about this stuff is not that smart.

I’m a Neil Young fan. You’ve got to go a long way to have a voice I’ll write off.

Last sentence there missing a The I think, at least for me.

Negroni for the sunshine, Cuba Libre when you need caffeine/sugar, Old Fashioned in the winter after dark.

That’ll probably do tbh. Obviously requires one liking the relevant ingredients but never really feel like anything else.

IMO Marvel has a similar but different problem. I watched enough of those films to know roughly what was happening. Then they gave us an off ramp and the next on ramp was Spaghetti Junction.

You’re probably better off just continuing as is, is the thing I am taking from this.

Anecdote isn’t data but…

This is exactly why I never got into Who. Was fractionally too young at the point it stopped after McCoy and therefore never had nostalgia for it when it came back and had other things I was watching so didn’t make room for it.

As an outsider, no on ramp is silly imo.

Have people really ignored C21 in the Allsorts challenge? Surely not?

08.08.2025 19:23 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

That’s probably fair here - especially as I can see me using the noms period as discovery to some extent, by the time the mop up challenge happens, there’s every chance something may have leapfrogged into a favourite

Yes. And also her own β€œFeel Good Hit Of The Summer” by QOTSA.

Yes, very useful to keep something in reserve potentially.

I thought I’d locked my #TheTwen2ie5 long list earlier today - then I realised the new Amaarae album has come out…

The seeding differential would suggest this, so fingers crossed there’s not some Hereford v Newcastle style upset.

I don’t participate and await with bated breath as to how angry the result might make me.

Well, as is periodically the case, I went back and played Bo Rhap and, yes, it’s overblown tosh but bloody hell. It’s at least magnifico overblown tosh.

Whatever we say, this gets sung word for word by Green Day audiences on their intro tape. It’s already won. I guess Bishop will sail as a result.

I enjoy the women’s tournament - given the players involved from India and Australia, as well as other overseas teams - it’s a high quality competition. I also accept that it may not have got traction without being linked to the men, unfortunately.

It’s not like there aren’t issues though.

Meanwhile, 20 years later, the Test summer is already over…

A close cousin would be #FirstGreatTrack I suppose - where those of us who consider Velocity Girl weedy can pointedly ignore it.

This track is brilliant.

Not that I am posting to the hashtag and am only really scanning it once a day to see what’s going on, but from what I can tell, I am resigned to it not attracting anywhere near enough votes.

06.08.2025 07:21 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

To be honest, I think - somewhat (if it’s last great track, one can admit some things that came later were good potentially) writing some things off is where the discussion point comes in, so people differing on where e.g. U2 fell off would be part of the appeal (at least for me).

05.08.2025 21:33 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Might be tricky to get people to enter the spirit of the thing maybe? It could just wind up as another Late Work Poll unless people really bite down and say β€œyeah, that last Cure album was good but really their last great track was released in the late 80s”.

05.08.2025 21:03 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I guess it may well have already been done. Still, think it could be a good discussion topic.

A few choices I’d have lined up:

Stones - Undercover of the Night
U2 - Hold Me, Thrill Me, etc
Janelle Monae - she will come again I think but right now I think it’s Turntables

05.08.2025 19:41 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

I have never run a music challenge, and honestly don’t want to, but an idea someone can nick.

#LastGreatTrack

Pick 10 or 15 or one a day for a week/month etc, of what you think is the last great track an artist released.

It’s celebratory! It’s also allowing you to write off swathes of careers!

Who can say what drove him to think β€œbetter start singing Acquiesce with my brother again”?

05.08.2025 11:44 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

*I think* I’ve still not heard anything from that. The only opportunity would have been in the PPP 2024 playlist and I am pretty sure we collectively shunned that album.

Suffice it to say, I am not seeking it out either.

05.08.2025 11:39 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I find it odd that people are going after Brook. We’d have got nowhere near without his knock yesterday, which - to be fair - had its streaky moments early on and obviously one major let off.

But show me a chanceless innings until the batter gets out, and I’ll show you probably a very short knock.

04.08.2025 13:48 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Selection’s the easiest thing to write column inches about. 5 of the top 7 aren’t getting dropped, so focus is on Pope and Crawley. No surprise they get the most flak - hence my view anything other than them’s the breaks is about another agenda (getting whomever is talking’s favourite into the side)

04.08.2025 13:46 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Any analysis that isn’t β€œany one of a number of things could have changed that result” runs the risk of being very partial.

I have seen people slating Pope’s captaincy. He set plans that resulted in 6 dropped catches. Lose by 6, even just one basic skill done badly once costs you.
