We could produce a lot of electricity on the land used for biofuels About enough to meet current global electricity demand.

Amidst all the chaos, the need to solve for a livable future remains. @hannahritchie.bsky.social's latest is an informative read toward that end.

As a farm kid, public radio was a game-changer for me. Every morning I learned about the world on @npr.org while getting ready for school. Other cultures, languages, musics, realities -- all of it was piped into my young mind, opening and changing me. #protectpublicmedia

I'm doing a thing where I write letters to my fellow Earthlings in different times. It's part of how I'm contending with the extremely distressing present moment. It helps me, somehow. Not because it provides any answers, but maybe because it gives me a different perspective on the questions.

I would like for wealthy people excited for tax cuts to sign a piece of paper acknowledging that every dollar they get in tax breaks is going to be paid for by someone else…either someone not getting healthcare or SNAP or some future person paying higher taxes to pay the interest on our new debt.

Toxic masculinity isn’t a concern here, and we don’t view empathy as toxic. For centuries, adult males have huddled together, protecting the colony’s most vulnerable, giving their future a chance amidst the raging storms that threaten them.

Wildlife, not livestock: Why the Eastern Shoshone in Wyoming are reclassifying buffaloes (This story was published in partnership with The Associated Press.) In Wyoming, the Eastern Shoshone want to redefine how we see buffalo.

The Eastern Shoshone this month voted to classify buffalo as wildlife instead of livestock. The vote indicates a growing interest to both restore buffalo on the landscape and challenge the relationship between animal and product. The latest from @siisiiko.bsky.social. grist.org/indigenous/w...

Yes, I need to stay up on the news. But I also need to watch and listen to the annual return of the Whooper Swans to northern #Sweden. A different sort of news delivery, telling a different sort of story. Like the return of a species from near-extinction, and the return of the Sun to the north.

Cooperation = survival. Working on a new episode of @thresholdpodcast.bsky.social & was reminded of this (again!) in this piece from @sarahemilywild.bsky.social. "...what we see from Neanderthals and H. sapiens is that the groups that cooperated better were the ones that got through." πŸ€”
