Some thoughts: When using GenAi as a mood board you don't get sources. This means you deprive yourself from knowledge. You generated a location? You deprived yourself of knowing more about the interesting parts of the world and why things came to be. Generate an armor or costume? You deprived yourself on real world techniques, function, form and history. You generated art inspirations? You deprive yourself of learning about artists from history or lock out living ones from potentially being hired. Ethical issues of using GenAi models aside, one ends up making visuals mood boards devoid of reality and history. With it one deprives themselves from learning about our world and who is living in it, inadvertently making your work weaker, because of how detached it is from our shared human reality and history.

Been thinking on the use of GenAi for mood boards. Ethics and legal risks aside, I truly believe using GenAi as references deprives one of many pivotal things.

My personal contribution to the "Oh ffs Larian" convo is re: using AI to "explore ideas." The LAST thing you want when exploring ideas is a machine programmed to agree with you. It will only narrow your vision.

You need other humans to yes-and, to "hey what if?" and even to "NAH."

Every writer who generates a slop image for their work is a class traitor.

Furthermore, slop-generated imagery suggests slop-generated writing. That's how you're presenting yourself.

As other people who've worked with Disney have pointed out, Disney has ALWAYS been the biggest hardasses about making sure every penstroke that goes into drawing Mickey had better look like it was drawn by Freddy Moore himself, but then they invest $1 billion into a mutant Mickey-making machine.

Those fuckers will hound small creators who dare make fan art of their characters and then pull this bullshit:

if you want human-made art and animation, it’s up to you, the customer, to prove it.

Execs always claim bloated budgets increase retail prices. This is a lie.

They will always increase prices to whatever they think they can get away with. Always have, always will. AI is merely a new get-richer-quicker scheme.

And execs will never admit the most bloated costs… are themselves.

in case anyone else feels bad for blocking/unfollowing people, this is a reminder that these are tools meant to help filter feeds so users can avoid certain topics/people/themes etc. someone can still be cool with you and have you unfollowed/blocked on social media. it’s not always a personal attack
