Impulse buy because this was one of those albums that was always being played in my school days, but I never owned a copy. UB40, Labour of Love (1983). Instant nostalgia overload!

That’s annoying! Hate when that happens! Will try to tune in to Hearthcon, but I have a half-marathon this weekend (I cope with burnout through endurance running) so time might be in short supply.

A romance writer on my LinkedIn feed is crowing about how much easier it is to write 1-minute scripts than 300-page novels. I suspect the shorts she’s scripting are made with AI. Doesn’t seem a great career move to train the machine…

Thoroughly Dad morning: changed furnace filters & ran the heat with the doors open to get that lovely burnt-dust smell out of the system/house. (Cold snap coming…) Also cleaned and descaled the coffee maker. Such a glamorous life! May clean dishwasher filters later…

I had one of those once. The interviewer was clearly the dogsbody for the business owner, and once she learned I had young kids she explained how the owner didn't respect anyone's time & it would be a nightmare office for a parent. I let her vent & left. Wonder if she finally rage quit?

A mostly white album cover held in front of a record player: Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos.

Spring of 1992 I first heard Tori Amos in a friend's gaff. I dubbed a copy & listened to her for months.

Today, I got my hands on a vinyl copy of Little Earthquakes & it’s like listening to the album for the first time.

Exciting news! Apparently Ferrari want me as their new social media manager. Truly remarkable how the caliber of random job offers I receive by email gets better by the week. I didn't even apply! Wonder why they keep going to my spam folder, though?

After a ten-year gap, I dusted off my old book blog and started posting reviews again: wordhoarder.wordpress.com

Why? Absolutely no idea -- except I'm finally enjoying reading fiction again & felt I should be a better literary citizen.

Forgive the 2009 wordpress aesthetics...

Review: The Enchanted Greenhouse by Sarah Beth Durst To this reader, it seemed a difficult task to come up with a sequel to Durst’s wonderful novel The Spellshop, because, as was befitting any romance novel, we got the happy ending with all the plot …

How do you write a great sequel to a popular fantasy that appeared to give everyone their happily ever after? In The Enchanted Greenhouse, Sarah Beth Durst delivers another wonderful, comic, & cozy romantasy!

Last 5 concerts I attended:

Taylor Swift
Bruce Springsteen
Ed Sheeran
Lizzo
Chvrches

Sadly those are across 4 years, so I clearly need to go to more shows.

Started #writing a new short story this morning. Managed to delete the first 500 words without saving… re-wrote the opening and managed to finish the scene without further mishap. Baby steps…

Paperback book with purple sprayed edges, the cover shows a forest scene. On top of a tower stand two women (one blond-haired, one dark-haired) watching two griffons fly over the forest.

The finale of Rebecca Thorne’s Tomes & Tea series, Alchemy & a Cup of Tea, underlines what an evocative, funny, & generally damn-good writer Thorne has become.

Review: The Creative Ambush by Matteo di Pascale The Creative Ambush: How to Unleash Your Creative Fire Into the World is a book designed to shake up your creative process, kickstart creative projects you’ve been keeping on the back burner,…

If you, like me, are a creative feeling stalked by ads for Matteo di Pascale's The Creative Ambush, I offer some thoughts: wordhoarder.wordpress.com/2025/08/01/r... TLDR: it's interesting, potentially useful. Mileage may vary.

Sometimes, pondering why a book didn't work teaches you more about writing than thinking about a book that does.

Pages, text edit, or a notebook. Fade In for scripts. Tried Scrivener for a while, but it felt like learning to use a Palm Pilot back in the day.
