Having finished re-watching the Donna Nobel season of Doctor Who I can see why she's become the most revisited companion of the modern era; she's nothing more and nothing less than the Doctor's best friend, akin to Jamie with the second Doctor.

And for those who'll invariable miss the point, again, it is not about whether or not Lex would keep his word about not shooting Mali. It is about Superman doing ANYTHING to save him.

Surely he would have likewise had the foresight to come up with a plan in case his enemies ever captured him and demanded answers about his upbringing and such.

This is a guy who had the savvy to put on glasses and act like an imbecile to dissuade people from figuring out he's Superman (as well as, for some reason, spread a BS story about how glasses are hypnotic).

In "Superman" Superman cannot be bothered to save Mali from Lex shooting him in the head by answering his question about who raised him even though he doesn't ACTUALLY have to tell the truth about the Kent.

In "Man of Steel" Superman risks his life to stop the World Engine from terraforming Earth knowing that doing so might kill him due to the changing atmosphere sapping his powers.
