I bought a thrift store HDMI capable DVD player, including 25 of my favorite childhood movies for the equivalent of about 3 months of subscription fees. I so much prefer my kids to take a DVD and watch a movie than to stream anything. It's a much more intentional activity.

Yeah search is pretty easy to de-google. Email, drive, docs, photos, Android and YouTube are a whole other story depending on the features you need/want. I haven't found a good alternative for docs and photos yet and YouTube is practically a monopoly..
