Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning.

My heart aches for my grandchildren and their generation who have grown up in this era. They are either living in fear or are indoctrinated. Recovery will take generations. This trauma is now part of the US psyche.

Social media makes it much worse. When I was a kid I didn’t have to worry being shot at school or that my mixed race friends would be taken and locked up by the government.

Having lived through that era I can tell you it is much worse. We saw Republicans stand up to Nixon and force him to resign. For children today it seems as if there are no adults to stand up for America.

My worry too. There will absolutely be no respect for law enforcement or government. I’ve been listening to my 12 and 14yr old (grandkids) and their friends. They are scared. They’ve already been through the pandemic and the first Trump debacle. The world will hear from them soon.
