My fursona standing outside in winter clothes, holding a heart-shaped box of chocolates that has text that reads "Be My Valentine," and then in much smaller text below that, "Please I beg you." Night in the Woods I'd more call a story game, but you could argue most story-focused games like that are cozy; just kinda depends.

Here Comes Niko is one that always comes to mind for me, where the developer says they went in trying to design a "cozy platformer," which I'd say they succeeded at.

it will never not baffle me that "cozy" in gaming has become synonymous with management games, often with an economic focus. I can think of nothing more stressful than economics and I struggle to manage my own damn self

Cute and simple little game with some fun puzzles, surprises, and secrets.

Ghost Shark - 8/10

the way they committed to the most absurd possible thing happening in every scene was honestly beautiful

A lot of people are calling it "Ultrakill for trans girls," which, for those with eyes to see, Ultrakill was already for trans girls. That said, Ultrakill is introverted trans; Girlypop is extroverted trans. All this to say, I deeply, DEEPLY love both.

While I consider Ultrakill to be the absolute peak of everything the FPS genre is/should be in my eyes, this comes VERY close in so many ways, and also brings its own things to the fray, all with an aesthetic that is so INCREDIBLY on-point in EVERY conceivable way and then some.

The player holds a many-barreled shotgun covered in pink crystals, strawberries, a ribbon, and several toy sharks. They're shooting at robots who are being barraged with bullets bursting out from a portal. On the left, there's a Tamagotchi-like device called "Tommy" that features a T-rex with a cowboy hat and belt on. The UI features a variety of symbols near the center of the screen, most notably "13.6X." Hearts and confetti also sprinkle the area.

Don't Stop, Girlypop! - 10/10

The platforming feels kinda finicky, the optional lore bits kinda break the pacing, and the UI is a little overwhelming. That said, the shooting+movement feels fantastic, the music is wonderful, and the vibes are astronomical! Also you can bedazzle your guns ?? !!

In Stars and Time - 10/10

It can definitely get a little more repetitive than I feel it needs, especially in the mid to late game, but damn, the character dynamics and general writing are some of my absolute favorites, it's absolutely adorable, and the main character being very relatable.

Metro Gravity - 9/10

Metroidvanias, rhythm games, puzzle games, changeable outfits, and witches are some of my favorite things, and this manages to combine them all in a way that works surprisingly well, especially from a solo dev. My only gripe is that it's a bit hard to navigate early on.

Demon Turf Tower - 7/10

A neat little challenge addition that's somewhere between a roguelike and a rage game where you can fall. The way death is handled (with it being a hard restart until you get ways to circumvent it later) I'm not crazy about, but the rooms are fun enough on their own.

Text saying "Total Completion: 105%" as the kappa character, Midgi, looks on in frustration saying "That makes no sense!!"

Demon Turf: Neon Splash - 8/10

The moveset's streamlined really well for this bite-sized addition, and the general neon colors aesthetic is fun (if a bit much on the eyes at times). Definitely has me excited for the upcoming Demon Tides.

Dusk - 9/10

it's just a damn good boomer shooter and I love boomer shooters. Secrets are great, enemy design is fun, weapons are all satisfying and useful, the final two bosses are dope as hell. Vibes in general are just 100% on point from start to finish.
