For better or worse, it isn't exactly the best time in our country's history to be embarking on a capital intensive research initiative.

Are you suggesting there are engineers that see a hard to implement problem and say "we should pay a vendor for that"?

The part about the Cold Play / Astronomer CEO fracas that has me most caught off guard is that hosted Airflow is apparently worth a billion dollars?

Would πŸ’― be a guest. What’s the angle you’re thinking of covering? (That would inform what I’d suggest to talk about)

Sometimes the person who is inviting me is on the other side of the organization, and getting the to use a different invitation method is… non-trivial. I’m willing to pay $8/month to avoid that running around.

This exists because sometimes a client will want to use Slack's external user feature to bring me into a single channel in their org, and that requires a paid account from me as the invitee.

idk why this is the example I reach for, given it's Wednesday, and I've already had two burritos and a plate of tacos this week.

My grandmother passed down to me that if you make a sandwich in a tortilla, it travels a lot better than bread. Does this count as Mexicanized Food?

Always makes my day.

The worst thing that ever happened to code review was adding any notion of "approval".

It's taken the whole idea from "innate desire for feedback, even if you disagree with it" to "what do I have to do to appease this person so I can get my work done".

02.06.2025 04:03 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Oh! Don't forget people who want to relitigate past architectural decisions they disagree with.

Everyone except people who view their aesthetic preferences as more important than getting things done. They'll be losing one of their most powerful tools!

It may take a jump or two in reasoning, but this is exactly why I think code review is mostly a waste of everyone's time.
