There have been trans players in @mnrollerderby.bsky.social since its inception 20 years ago. In a sport where speed, strength, & endurance is paramount, it's proven that trans women simply do not dominate.

My team has been having exactly this conversation.

Which direction is the skater moving at the time they initiate?

There may be some convention/consensus that I am not familiar with, but essentially, we are using that definition in conjunction with this rule “Skaters may not block or assist while Out of Bounds, Out of Play, down, stopped, or moving clockwise.”

If the skates are moving in opposite directions, direction of travel is determined by the hips.”

From the glossary:
“Skating - Direction of Travel
A Skater’s direction of travel (for example, counterclockwise, lateral, or clockwise) is measured by the skates moving relative to a line perpendicular to the inside track boundary.

WFTDA rules make no distinction about whether you are on or off your toe stops, only the direction you are moving, which is measured by the movement of the skates.

We shifted to calling them “MFP” (most favorite player) a number of years ago and it’s helped a lot in both the variety of different humans who are awarded them, as well as the feelings associated with them. I still don’t love them, but it’s significantly more palatable.
