Everyone holds positions that don't match 100% to the organized left-right spectrum. I am a strong supporter of nuclear power which here in the US has long been a bogeyman to the political left, but my frustration with my fellow lefties hasn't yet made me feel ANY commonality with racists.

So I might be viewing his fascism argument in light of that and conflating the two and getting a nuanced point lost

I might be the one conflating, but his constant arguments on Gazan genocide seems to be the exact same: according to some definition of "genocide" Gaza is not a genocide, and the danger of calling it that is to lessen the power of that word when it needs to be applied to "full" or "real" genocides

So he really wants to make sure we don't call the government "fascist", just "authoritarian" or maybe "broken." Or Israel's possibly flirting with "ethnic cleansing" but it's not technically "genocide." Can we put as much effort towards defining the government or Israel? No, we can't and he won't.

these terms (yet) and that if we use them prematurely then those pursuing these goals will be able to abuse our misunderstanding once were actually closer to them. AND YET he has NO interest in accurately defining where we are right now with similar specificity to these terms. /2

When he's not stuck on this "definitions of Faciscm/Authoritarianism/Genocide" thing he can often have thoughts provoking content, but honesty this seems to be nearly 90% of what he posts now. He REALLY wants to make sure we understand the world doesn't TECHNICALLY match up to the definitions of /1

It's such a subtle dig, but I love how the final obituary for Nelson by a major newspaper uses the term "Mormon," which he used a ton of energy to try and kill once he obtained his leadership role by outliving previous Prophet-Presidents. Nelson would have HATED that.

28.09.2025 12:02 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Under Nelson a rejection of focus on peculiarities of doctrine was made, focusing instead on similarities to US Evangelical Protestantism, focusing on grace and Jesus (not bad things) & an even HIGHER attention to US Evangelical culture war items like porn and especially anti-gay & anti-trans.

Good Mormons celebrated the change as revelation: it became a cultural marker of your faithfulness as a Mormon on how strenuously you rejected that term and told others to stop using it. Now that the only energy behind this has died the cultural pendulum will quickly swing back to not mind its use.

28.09.2025 11:52 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

For non-insiders, Nelson always hated the nickname, and once he became Prophet-President one of his first revelations was that God was very insistent on using the Correct Name of the Church (TCoJCoLdS). Even though previous Prophets had fully embraced the term it was now perceived as a "slur."

So it's time to place your bets on how many years until Mormons call themselves "Mormons" again! And how many years until Moroni goes back up on temples and is used as a logo for something?

Are we sure this loud-mouthed idiot doesn't work in the next cubicle down from the author of the tweet? Or that they're not taking the day off from their day job working inside the facility?

I completely trust The Blaze to fully report that such a statement was made as much as I completely trust them to report if the other protesters quickly told their fellow loud-mouth compatriots to shut the hell up and tried to pull them away or if everyone else just shrugged silently.

I always encourage everyone to keep thoughtful and respectful voices that disagree with them on Bluesky to provide diverse viewpoints. This troll is most definitely NOT thoughtful nor respectful. You never have to keep the trolls talking to prevent an echochamber, so for me this guy is now muted!

We're NEVER going to solve the climate crisis through personal bike riding and buying local without ALSO solving the massive systemic issues present in big oil, big agro, and shipping/transportation, which can only be done in legal regulatory ways that cut deeply into their profit margins.

Here's a sentence I don't usually write, but what Trump is saying in this quote is 100% correct (when divorced from the context of his "speech"): the personal "carbon footprint" was dreamed up by BP as a way to promote "individual responsibility" as a smokescreen against "corporate responsibility"

Yes, and you're right to call me out on it. I tend to be long winded and BS encourages brevity, so I don't always say everything I need to.

"Leominster police arrived at the scene, recovered the child and returned her to the family."

This was the right action here and would be if it happened again

This is amazing to me, and so simple. Turns out that the 9s Times Table from 0 to 10 is a palindrome!?

Generally calling the cops on ICE is not a good idea because they'll claim they're following their rules by detaining people, but in this case there is no legal footing or precedent for their actions. So, yeah, call the cops!

Yes, but with diluted power for each new justice

22.09.2025 22:29 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Every new justice just dilutes the power of the rest accordingly. Instead of the court being swayed by 2-3 weirdos the number of weirdos versus normal people needed rises. Even conservative judges, if normal, are preferable to what we currently have. Eventually the SC will become normalized

Zohran is popular because he's focusing on the ACTUAL needs of the working class, which is that People Need Help, not that Other Supposedly-Undeserving People Are Stealing Your Help. You know, the message opposed to BOTH the oligarchs AND the corporatists, the actual progressive populist message.

Reagan-era nonsense about how the welfare state benefits "the undeserving" is just a corporatist spin on the problem that does nothing to solve it. It says, "I know you're hurting, and I'd love to help you with my vast resources, but the ACTUAL problem is this other person over there, not me!" /2

He _almost_ had the plot in the first part of the quote (Dems stopped caring about the working classes), then drove off the edge of the cliff (because they're supporting welfare queens). The rise in populism across the spectrum is a reflection of how the working class has suffered, but the /1

I'm not saying that it's the sole reason for where we are, but there's at least one clear line from the Johnson admin's giving up on Reconstruction to Jim Crow, to Bob Jones Uni, to the Christian Right, to MAGA. In many ways we're still reaping our inability to complete the south's reconstruction

Don't get me wrong, our current FPTP system means I can't vote for a fascist or indirectly vote for one by sitting out, but it will just continue to increase voter apathy and hopelessness to keep voting for do-nothing Diet Evil instead of Evil. And, yes, I hate it.

Will it finally convince someone important enough to make a difference in the heirarchy to the truths that 1) it's not worth the long-term costs to try and belong to the white Evangelical political club & 2) their presence was only tolerated because of cash, they were never really accepted anyways

For all I know, though, "glowie" might actually arise from the 1960s/1970s attempts of the FBI to infiltrate US social justice movements (I should research it when I have time), but it's pretty firmly an alt-right white nationalist militia term now and in any case it's time to take it back.
