I don't think either of them are brilliant theoreticians when it comes to psychosexual development or metapsychology: Both take the idea of developmental stages for granted, and Dolto uncritically and surprisingly relies entirely on the second topographical model of the psyche.

I've just finished reading Dolto's _Dominique_ case-study and Winnicott's _The Piggle_, and though both definitively had a knack for listening to children, there is something much more profound in Dolto's ability to intervene with interpretations, constructions, and silence.
