When I was a grad student, I was working on a proposal exploring Barthes’ idea of the trappings of the adjective in talking about music. Alas, the provincial powers that held the post-doc purse strings scored me second to lowest in the category.

I ask because I have heard the comparison. I don’t entirely agree, though I really enjoy her work (for some of the same reasons I love Barthes).

Is Kate Briggs the (or a) new #Barthes? Are there others?
