Picked You're Not My King b/c I THOUGHT it was just a short gay monster romance. But I'm a dumbass. It's not short. It's 300 something pages & about slavery, but in a "fun" way.

Repetitive. There was a description that was given three different ways on the same page. Seleste is entirely reactive to Ambrose. That's all her character is. We barely know anything about her family. They come out briefly to show how upset she is about them not accepting that she doesn't have magic and then they go away. There's nothing else going on outside of them being together. There are multiple times jumps that bring them back to his burrow. There's so much telling about what happens when they're not together, but we don't get to see any of it! Seleste goes out of town with her family. Do we get to see ANY of it?? Nope. Ambrose is without her for weeks, and do we get to see what he does?? Nope.

They're fated mates, and that's it. There's nothing else going for them as individuals. Honestly, maybe she should have fucked him in unicorn form. That would have at least been interesting.

DNF at 37%. I really wanted to read A Burning Oath. I'm so upset 😭. I should have suspected something was up when the author only advertised with the spicy scenes
