i should note that there is a funnel. i see an interesting convo involving stats. i say something. i filter out everyone who calls me names. one polite guy remains. his logic seems incompatible with reality. BUT he's polite, so i back out politely.

i like to come to agreement and see another person's perspective but i see no way

this sounds plausible but nobody i argue with behaves as if they are seeking trust. they are absolutely convinced evidence and numbers prove their point (usually a racist point)

something went wrong at the high school level, we can't even agree on foundational stuff

whenever i try to have a polite conversation with someone i disagree with, i am extraordinarily disappointed

no matter how basic i start, like "these stats are not black & white because it is a complex topic with many contributing trends", the other person will insist the numbers are black & white
