A discovery that changed the world. From his home in Berkeley, Dr Jenner’s House tells the story of the pioneering Gloucestershire scientist Edward Jenner (1749-1823) and his ongoing legacy of vaccination.
The Jenner Trust are delighted to announce a grant by The National Lottery Heritage Fund to start the restoration of Dr Jenner’s House and Garden. The £221,508 grant from will restore the world’s first ever vaccination clinic “The Temple of Vaccinia” and develop plans for renovations for the house.

In 1796 the doctor and scientist Edward Jenner made a discovery that would go on to save thousands of lives. He developed a vaccine that would prevent people from catching smallpox. Jenner was influenced by the practice of inoculation, used in many West African countries and the Ottoman Empire.
