as DT's arc drew to a close i was kinda worried they'd try to both sides the Endless issue in a really annoying way that torpedoes 7.0's messaging, in the same way that Yotsuyu's arc and Varis' "no u" speech in StB postpatch utterly ruins any message that expac might've had. and, in 7.1/7.2 where Wuk Lamat keeps talking about Endless Sphene as a person with personhood? i was worried they were gonna try and posit the Endless as anything BUT horrifying. but after 7.3 i think i'm quite content with where it landed. Endless Sphene WAS her own person with her own thoughts, feelings, desires and beliefs. the tragedy of the Endless is maintained here through 7.3 mission statement: while the conditions of her creation are horrific, the actual tragedy is that she wasn't allowed to die. that she was conditioned to think she already had, and her eternal existence was penance for that failing. it's why the new Living Memory fucking breaks me, dude. it's no longer the eternal engine fuelling a horrific LLM-driven recreation of people's loved ones or a haunted graveyard. it's a monolith, a memorial to those that no longer number among the living - Endless Spene included. for once, the postpatch continuation arguably enhanced the story rather than nuked it. they're not denying death or even fearing it, they're turning the holy land of their beliefs into a monument to their greatest fear, and through it Endless Sphene's existence has been made truly real - she has died and been buried.
