Moscow faces potential loss of its Syrian bases, African supply routes after toppling of Assad regime Russia’s naval and air bases in Syria are crucial resupply hubs, but with the sudden defeat of the Russian-backed government in Damascus, those bases are now in serious peril

I shared some thoughts with @theglobeandmail.com
on on effects of Assad's exit on Russia-backed juntas in Africa. There must be some nervousness around in Bamako, Ouaga, and Niamey: www.theglobeandmail.com/world/articl...

I wrote a short summary of where are we with the anti-malaria vaccinations. By the end of 2024, the number of African countries conducting or initiating universal malaria vaccination will approach 20. While manufacturing goes better (with R21), financing might get tricky.

1 day after Sudan's army reclaimed Sennar state's capital, Sinja (on Nov 23, see video), ending the deadly RSF occupation, displaced in Gadaref begun registering for a return. Enthusiasm is unmistakable. A million IDPs from Sennar might soon return. Probably the most optimistic moment of this war...

Look at this and tell me the Russians don't have a sense of humor 💀
Came across this pro-Russian YouTube account targeting West African audiences the other day. Videos are fully AI generated avatar images and voice overs (pics 1&2), promoting AES and bashing France & the West (nothing new here) 1/3

Critics had good arguments to call those local truces "surrender". Still, they offered respite and some normalcy for civilians, priceless channels of communication, trust-building exercise and at least some hope for rebuilding social fabric. Most of that has been lost with the 3 juntas approach...

Off we go! Let's see how many #Africa -aficionados move here and make it into a worthy experience. For the time being, I'd be posting simultaneously on both Bluesky and X and keep fingers crossed for the migration :-)
