I struggle with those comps because Mamdani had to win despite another Democrat (nominally Ind.) running a sore-loser campaign against him that pulled 42% of vote. IMO just as meaningful is that the R candidates in '17 and '21 (Sliwa in '21) each got 27%; Sliwa didn't break double digits yesterday.

I've heard of "friendly contempt" where, e.g., privilege is disputed, obeying a discovery order would destroy the privilege, and there's no appellate jurisdiction unless and until contempt is found. But I have no damned idea if that's an approach a prosecutor can take in a federal criminal action.
