Last Friday, many though not all active and pending direct grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) were terminated. One of the projects that was terminated effective May 31, was the NEAโ€™s ArtsHERE initiative, delivered in cooperation with South Arts and through significant partnership with the US Regional Arts Organizations. This comes alongside the presidentโ€™s proposal to eliminate the NEA entirely in the FY26 federal budget. Together, these actions will have devastating impacts on communities throughout the country.

We at South Arts, along with the national collective of US Regional Arts Organizations, strongly urge Congress to restore the grant funding in support of the arts, culture, and creativity that was passed during the last budgetary approval process, in addition to maintaining its broad bipartisan commitment to funding the NEA in next yearโ€™s budget.

Guidelines of the ArtsHERE grants, which offered $65k - 130k in nonmatched funds

From South Arts: that they terminated ArtsHERE, one of the most substantial nonmatching grants I've ever seen. Millions of dollars stripped from orgs who were already depending on it.

Call your reps & tell them to restore the (broad bipartisan!) commitment to funding the NEA in next yearโ€™s budget.

Mo, my dadโ€™s cat - one of his favorite topics. He loves his chonky boy. Always a sure thing. 10/10

Bacon - My dad does a lot of grocery shopping and constantly buys bacon because itโ€™s on sale. Heโ€™s got like 5 packs in the freezer at any given time. Heโ€™s very passionate about this, but one can only talk about bacon flavor and brands for so long 6/10

Brandon Sanderson - he loves fantasy novels and has read Sanderson but โ€œhis books are so long.โ€ Fair. 7/10

The Troubles - I may have ruined this attempt as it was my next attempt after the dust bowl, but he was even less interested in Northern Irish recent historyโ€ฆ beginning to suspect history is not the way to go 1/10

My visit to the Donner Party museum - decent amount of interest at first, but one can only talk about this moment in history for so long before it gets dark 3/10
