At illegal wildlife trade conf. In ASEAN, Gov speaker: with previous support from USAID we have significantly increased the regions ability combat illegal trade. Sad to think how much we (US gov) are walking away from these important investments into biodiversity.

It’s sad that you’d conflate a zoo transferring animals, all males. All reaching sexual maturity to monetary transactions. That is not how WAZA and AZA work. They have very complex population management programs to ensure they don’t have long term in breeding issues.

Here is the pure evil part.

Yea they have been mistaken for actual humane societies those that run shelters when in fact they are more or less an animals rights activities group, lobbying, other political and legal action. Many feel their fundraising pitches always blurred those lines intentionally.

A win? Nope just full a day of meetings, dread, discussions, planning for what ifs and nexts. 5 minutes to write the memo. Millions of minutes of folks dealing with it. They will likely call that a win.

@rewiringamerica.bsky.social

Anyway someone can get us the reasons why the Biden administration could t get rebate programs up and running for the IRA for years and are now likely dead. Seems like such a colossal example of failure act due to overwhelming bureaucracy.

I hope that is satire. Perhaps one or two journals are decent in each of those but I refuse to review and try not to cite anything in those journals. Most are total money scams. Special issues by your colleagues milking APC out of colleagues. Support society journals.

Showing students how to use it is interesting. My favorite so far is to give them a paper w/ its data set and have them recreate the figure in R and they never used R (I loath R). Then talk about why the PCA looks different than the paper, find the unknown outlier and make it look identical.

I can tell you that I can write code (Python, SQL) about 5-10 times faster, C is something I would never bother with but now work in. My code and commits are far more readable, a billion times more enjoyable. It’s also the best copy editor I have ever used.

Guinea Worm Case Totals

I got an email a few years ago from the Carter Center asking about information about growing copepods to study Guinea Worm. I had no idea of Carters work on this until that email. What an amazing legacy. 6 cases this year.
