Great day for a stream macroinvertebrate biodiversity survey in the Ecology class. Case-building caddisflies, zombie ants, and my first Northern Flicker (Yellowhammer, the Alabama state bird).

I found a zombie ant! This poor little cuss is hanging from the twig it was compelled to climb after being infected. You can see the fungus (Ophiocordyceps) sprouting from its head in the characteristic long spike. Yep, you heard "cordyceps", as in The Last of Us. 🧟‍♀️

They're so little and cute! I love them!! 😭

I FINALLY GOT THE FART DANCE ON TAPE! CAUGHT IN THE ACT!! Turns out telling Gabe the parrot his Fart Dance is "not funny" just makes him laugh harder and do it more. 🙄💨🎵

It is Bedtime for Birds and I am strictly enforcing this, so now Gabe is sulking in the dark and grumbling about "That Woman." 🙄 It's like caring for a toddler and a little old man at the same time.

I'm in Alabama. My in-laws keep a bunch of them as a hobby, and theirs all bloom at Christmas, like clockwork. I guess I ended up with the rebellious one.😈

I moved back to Alabama several years ago and I have a new bug crush every week. ♥️

Just to be clear, I did replace the hide with larger options. Tough love.

My ball python outgrew her baby hide quickly, but she refused to give it up. Stuffed her butt in there and carried it around like she was a hermit crab. 😅
