This is a black and white photograph of a mountainous landscape reflected almost perfectly in a lack. Sun touches on the mountains in the distance, and a little grass at the near edge of the lake breaks the symmetry of the image.

Well, in the midst of grindingly grim news, here's a photograph of the mountains above Llyn Mwngil. #photography #cymru

As we roll on towards Michaelmas, I am reminded that it was fifteen years ago this month that my piece 'Factum est silentium' was first performed at St Paul's Cathedral. It got a couple of outings over the next few years, but I'm not sure if anyone else has ever performed it. #choralmusic

My colleague @goran-gaber.bsky.social is thought-provoking as always in this article - a pleasure to read, and a pleasure to think on.

Anyway, the piece is written to be quite versatile, and the score is freely available, if anyone would like to sing it.

The text is a fragment of the requiem mass sung over some of the typical data analysis language of the time - the kinds of phrases that were heard on a daily basis. It is, in a sense, a rather quiet prayer over the noise of incalculable loss being calculated rather coldly.

As today seems to be the day allotted for marking five years since the #coronavirus #pandemic began, here is a short piece I wrote for Calmus Ensemble as part of their project to collect musical 'statements' on the period.

It's freezing outside, and so it seems apt to share something icy. I rate these two pictures amongst the most pleasing I have taken, thus far. They were worth a cold early start.

For the technically curious: Pentax SPII, SMC Takumar 50/1.4, Rollei RPX 400 film developed in 510 Pyro.

I’ve been giving X a hard eye for the year or so since Elon Musk took ownership and my very small share in the company was returned to me. Now, though, his outright support for destabilising hard-right movers like Farrage in the UK and the AFD in Germany tells a story that it’s impossible to ignore.

You can take the boy out of the church, but ....

For the beginning of Advent, 'Drop down, ye heavens.' There are proper recordings on various platforms, but this was the première. I finished writing it a whole hour or so beforehand ...

I'm looking forward to hearing how people receive and use these! There's a nice open-endedness to a lot of the steps, suggesting things to consider rather than presenting a didactic 'one true way,' which (I hope!) is valuable in an evolving field. #digitisatalcollections

In the past, I have tended to keep different accounts for different interests. I've never been able to decide if it really works, and my academia and music posts were always in the same place, anyway. So, I'll try a little integration and see how it goes.
