We are definitely talking about different things. I spent 15 years in political combinations and seen every kind of voter suppression tactic. Its a fundamentally racist feature of our elections. And any "solving" of our failed media/socialmedia landscape would necessarily need to solve for that too.

I mean, that's my point. Social discourse is balkanized to the point where people pick truths to fit their narrative rather than accepting basic facts as they are and are applauded for their bravery. Until that's solved meaningful direct democracy at scale would lead to similar outcomes as today

Also as an ohioan, the direct ballot stuff is awesome, but of course our one party state legislature tries every session to undercut reproductive rights and the legal cannabis amendments.

Only concern is the poison pill of social media. If we cant all agree on basic verifiable fact, and influencers are allowed to continue eroding trust in expertise with then social media oligarchs fingers on the scales direct democracy doesn't get us anywhere.
