Generations of American patriots, from our revolution onward, have fought for the principles Zelenskyy is risking his life to defend. But today, Donald Trump and JD Vance attacked Zelenskyy and pressured him to surrender the freedom of his people to the KGB war criminal who invaded Ukraine.

I found this gorgeous watercolor painting of the Arc de Triumph at an antique shop in Savannah. Does it need a different frame?

It’s all in the details. Why study art if we don’t commit to immersing ourselves in its history? I try to choose the quietest times to visit museums and other tourist destinations. Nothing beats having a masterpiece to yourself, if only for a moment.

I came across this wonderful memory while searching for a different photo earlier this evening. My first (and so far, only) visit to the Archives of American Art DC in Nov 2019 while working on a provenance research project for a client. #arthistory

Agreed! Also, don’t forget to look down. I was mesmerized by the details everywhere I looked! This is the floor in Sainte Chapelle.

1. He ran into one of his brothers in a communications tent - they hadn’t seen each other in years.
2. He helped to liberate concentration camps. He only spoke of what he saw many decades later…my father said that was the only time he saw his father cry.

My paternal grandfather began his U.S. military service in 1943 and was sent to Europe in Feb of 1945. I know only two things of his time on the frontlines…

“New York looked grand. There aren’t enough millions to buy my U.S. citizenship.” -Daisy Warren, Sept 1939.
Further to my recent post, here is a news article my grandmother was interviewed for upon her return from visiting relatives in England.

A few photos from my first two visits to the Louvre in 2007. Viewing their restoration dept was an experience I’ll always remember. I’d been in the art field just two years at the time, but this day solidified that I was on the right path.

I take in the art, of course, but I also consider the magnitude of challenges faced throughout their respective history. To be in places like these is not to witness history, rather to stand amongst it…it is a feeling like no other.

While walking through The National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, and the Louvre, I can’t help but imagine the level of planning that went into the logistics of relocating and hiding these collections during WWII. I’ve visited the National Gallery twice and the Louvre three times.

My paternal grandmother, Daisy Warren Roberts, was a child of the Great Depression and saved all sorts of mementos from her travels. She also kept journals throughout her 95 years. In 1939 she traveled from Detroit to NYC and on to the UK to visit relatives for the summer. #WWII #1939NYworldsfair

You may think that your bank, your doctor, your veterinarian etc keep all of these records secure in the ‘cloud’. You absolutely should as well. And, not only in the cloud, but hard copies, too. Keep it all in a binder and make sure it goes with you in any disaster.

I think the majority of us agree that we’re facing rapid climate change and political instability here in the U.S. and abroad.

Here’s where I go into planning mode…

Document everything; scan your vehicle paperwork, mortgage documents, the deed to your home, vet records, etc.

I’m a huge proponent of digitizing personal records and collections. I don’t come from wealth and I don’t have any to speak of, however, I know the importance of documenting what is precious to me. In today’s world, we never know when we may find ourselves needing to flee.

From what I can/cannot find, there is currently no comprehensive list of publications that focus on museum logistics and strategies during WWII. Or, more specifically, the actions taken to preserve cultural heritage during that time. There's no shortage of books on the topic(s).
