World Cup VI: Switzerland – Brazil sambas into their first championship with a 17-year-old prodigy This article is part of a continuing series about the history and scope of the FIFA World Cup. Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and Sweden expressed interest in hosting the 1958 tournament. In the end, Sweden was awarded the tournament unopposed on June 23rd, 1950. Two countries submitted bids to host the event: Sweden and Italy. Italy was selected as host and 32 teams entered the competition, a 146% increase in interest compared to 1930. Decisions Made On November 26th, FC Cincinnati started the process of building their roster for the 2026 season by announcing which players' contract options they decided to exercise and which to decline. This was the first step in what should be a busy offseason for Chris Albright and company. Option Decisions The club chose to exercise the contract options for Tah Brian Anunga, Teenage Hadebe, Stiven Jimenez, Evan Louro, Kenji Mboma Dem and Matt Miazga, while declining the options for Kei Kamara, Yuya Kubo, Alvas Powell, and Brad Smith.

Where do we go from here? As another FCC season comes to an end, this time at the hands of a 4-0 loss to Inter Miami in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, thoughts are turning to the 2026 MLS season and who will be on the roster. Chris Albright and the front office will have their work cut out for them this offseason as half of the current 30-man roster does not have guaranteed contracts for 2026.

Both of these clubs were founded with championship ambitions, and are settling for nothing less. Within just four seasons,  both of them had claimed a Supporters’ Shield—a season apart.
