Home NiΜ‚kaneΜ‚se Wah tzee is an Indigenous-led society dedicated to the recovery of the Klinse-Za mountain caribou and the restoration of their habitat.

Today the herd count was at 187 β€” up from just 38 caribou in 2013. Thanks to collaborative Indigenous-led conservation β€” including maternal penning, habitat restoration, and protection β€” this herd is growing. Y2Y is proud to support this effort.

The pen is part of a world-renowned recovery program led by West Moberly and Saulteau First Nations. Caribou are vital to ecosystems and Treaty 8 way of life, but face extinction threats. Caribou guardians made sure the calves were safe before they rejoined the herd in Klinse-Za/Twin Sisters Park.

As Wyoming moves to protect the world’s largest pronghorn herd, fed’s energy goals may supercede Wyoming is faced with a tale as old as time: balancing multiple interests on public land. The state is poised to protect a threatened pronghorn herd, but federal directives for Unleashing American Energy could get in the way.

Wyoming is poised to protect the world’s biggest pronghorn herd – it has one of the longest landbased migration routes in the lower 48 states. It’s been years in the making.

A road runs through it - The Boston Globe America’s wild lands are already home to vast networks of paved and dirt roads. Now the Trump administration is about to expand their reach.

Roadless areas are β€œincredibly important from an ecological standpoint,” says Leslie Weldon, former deputy chief of the US Forest Service and Y2Y board member.

But that's just the start of the impacts if the Roadless Rule is overturned. Read more in this opinion from @bengoldfarb.bsky.social

Osburn’s bridge to nowhere becomes a lifeline for Silver Valley’s elk - High Country News Idaho’s newest wildlife crossing didn’t need to be built. It already existed near Coeur d’Alene.

Outside of Osburn, Idaho, a defunct bridge has become a new wildlife crossing. Fencing was installed to funnel wildlife to the overpass, costing $645,000. The bridge will be removed in the next 10 years but residents hope a new crossing will replace it.
