Did you know the last common ancestor of #zebrafish and humans was ~450 million years ago? A whole genome duplication event (3R) occurred early in the teleost fish phylogeny. Despite this event, zebrafish and humans have about the same number of chromosomes. #ZebrafishFunFacts 🧪

Thank you to everyone working on this study co-led by grad student Sean McGinty and Gulhan Kaya, as well as Jonas Korlach @pacbio.bsky.social. Also, awesome collaborators at USDA (Scott Geib & Sheina Sim) and @sangerinstitute.bsky.social (@marakat.bsky.social, @amakunin.bsky.social, and Mike Quail).

We also show drastic improvements in identifying chromatin interactions across SDs, highlighting disease-associated human 1q21.1 locus associated with ASD, ID, and include the TAR-syndrome deletion. Our CiFi results suggest that the TAR region represents a TAD "boundary" not observed in Hi-C data.

Thanks to reviewer feedback, we expanded our analysis to show that CiFi multi-contact reads, representing cis chromosomal interactions, increase our ability infer phase from ~10% for Hi-C to >80% for CiFi.
